Bodies under siege

How far-right extremists across Europe and the US attack abortion to advance broader fascist politics. If you think today's anti-abortion politics are rooted in religious freedom or arguments about where life begins, you are wrong. This is a movement largely financed and planned by far-right extremists. Many of them are avowedly fascist and white supermacist, afraid of the 'Great Replacement' of the world's white population and working hard to reshape government policies across Europe and North America. Much of this extremists organising and funding network, however, has been overlooked by today's feminist and left movements, as well as by the media. As investigative journalist Siân Norris reveals, it is through attacking abortion rights that fascist ideas from the dark web, incel message boards, and fringe organisations enter mainstream debate, becoming respectable political positions and even government policy. This is the product of a well-oiled machine - one funded by American right-wing think tanks - linking Orbán's Hungary to liberal democracies in Western Europe and the US. As Norris goes undercover at anti-abortion activist meetings and follows the money trail, she shows how fascism has become respectable across the Global North by taking away women's reproductive rights and autonomy.
