Revisiting a childhood favorite

It has been many years since I read Redwall. I'm not sure how many books of the series I read back in my youth, but it was quite a few. I wanted to see how it stood up, as an "adult". I listened to the audiobook version, which is nice because it is a full cast reading, but not good because the voices can be pretty annoying and the audio recording, mixing, and levels are quite bad. Overall I enjoyed it, and I can see how it set me off on a lifetime of fantasy novel reading, but it doesn't have much meat on its bones.

Review of 'Redwall' on 'Goodreads'

Read with daughter, 8. Her comments were that it was a little slow in the beginning, and I tend to agree. Perhaps that is why it took us 3 months to read this. She won't be reading any others in the series soon, but will probably do so eventually. Like many others on the web, she is interested in building a version of Redwall Abbey in Minecraft, so it must have made some good impression.
