I'm picky and read slowly, but I do love books. I love audiobooks and am so pleased to finally be a part of that world via librivox.org.

I'd say more but too many people "know" who I am, and that understanding has always been up for debate. (Even stranger is barely anyone gets in touch with me to ask.) ^_^

Beverly Cleary: Otis Spofford (Paperback, 1990, Avon Camelot) 4 stars

There was nothing Otis Spofford liked better than stirring up a little excitement. In fact, …

Chapter Five: That was a bit dubious in which some first nations inaccuracy abounds as it would in the mid 20th century. Either way that makes little difference to Otis making a massive boo-boo in which Ellen's hair gets cut and a bit too much of it, I guess we'll find out in the next chapter how the dude from the main office is going to wail on Otis...

Chapter Four: Weird bit with him and Stewy attempting to do the science homework for a high school football player by collecting bugs for him and then battling over who gives him his collection and a goofy bit where a younger kid, Bucky, is also helping out Otis as he admires him.

Trtippy as heck to have both Ellen and Otis feeding the class rat feeling it was each own's pet! Ellen confessed first which rather drowned out Otis' confession, now their love for Mutt The Rat seems to be bringing them together as friends???

Got this one started today and Otis has as many or more annoying attributes than he did in the Ellen Tebbits book. Dude looks like he lives in a project and did mention there was no yard , so okay. There is some bullfighting thing the teacher suggests since the class has more boys than girls for dancing either lessons or some event. Otis was okay with it until he found out he was going to be one half of the bull rather than the bullfighter dude with the red cape thing going on. One would THINK he would have been the bull's rear-end but that job went to Stewie who isn't much better than Otis if at all. I awaited for Otis to rip one in the costume but it never happened. Oh well.

Ellen Tebbits has a secret that she'll never share with anyone. That is, until she …

Chapter Six: Some kind of celebration in which Ellen gets to play a rat in the play and then gets wrangled into a May pole dance and tangles things and Austine helps her out, but I'm not sure she knows it's Ellen because of her costume.

Chapter Five and Ellen and Austine want to dress up in a same dress for fourth grade but one mom sews the pattern incompatibly and what a disaster! The woes of days of sewing ones own clothes and going to school with the likes of Otis entails, ugh!

commented on Brutally Honest by Melanie Brown

Melanie Brown, Louise Gannon: Brutally Honest (Hardcover, 2018, Quadrille Publishing) No rating

Chapters 17 & 18 (I think) and wow, that was a lot of weirdness with Melanie and Eddie Murphy. ISSUES, but I appreciate her clearly explaining so much. All the broo-ha with media and all that. These days it's hard to imagine anyone cares, even news people. I am glad her mum gave some thoughts on the follow up dude. I'm glad the girls got a mention and another reunion that was being planned at the time and my sports geek husband could explain the L.A. Galaxy bit I was uncertain about with Victoria's husband, etc. Again, Scary Spice keeps me reading, I'm satisfied to report.

Chapter Four: That was a pretty bizarre one with the two gals going horse back riding together and Ellen wasn't as practiced at it as she led Austine to believe, oops! And dang lots of off road hecklers was hard to believe sometimes, whatta buncha rude hosers out there. They got through it okay, thankfully.

Chapter Three: Austine helps Ellen clean up from the beet scavenge. Otis has some jumping beans that keep interrupting classwork. Since Ellen got dirty she finally gets to the clap the erasers but it'll be with Otis who then drops beans and the teacher decides Austine will clap erasers with Ellen instead of him. Then it is revealed Miss Joyce didn't send Ellen out to clap erasers as her dresses were always so clean. OF course. So Ellen is pretty chuffed at the end of this chapter, huzzah!

Chapter Two! Much better with a class discussion about annuals, perennials, and biennials which was kinda new to me. So carrots and beets take that long to make a flower? Okay. Of course my adult training got me wanting to look-it-up and I did, pretty orange blossoms! So anyway, Ellen wants to please her teacher and suggest she bring one she saw to school of a beet, then it gets goofy with Ellen in her rain coat in the rain and having to deal with some biddy complaining when she snags the thing and then getting help from her friend's brother, Bruce, and riding to school in his bike basket and tearing her dress getting out of that at school. Then Otis-dummy keeps teasing her and Austine backs her up since Austine was supposed to help her retrieve the beet and flower that morning but had sock-issues delaying her. Not …

Finally finished chapter one and there was SO MUDH on the order of adjusting one's underwear, apparently this is worse when they are woolen, yikes. Glad that wasn't part of MY childhood. SHEESH Thankfully Ellen and Austine got along upon discovering this as a commonality. Oh, and Otis IS Annoying with a capital A!
