It's a quite good pirate themed YA book with a bit of fantasy and romance. Or a lot. So far, nothing too groundbreaking, but this is the first of two. It doesn't end in too bad of a cliffhanger, but you'll obviously need to read the second to get the whole package.

SpoilerI quite liked it to the point where Alusa's powers were finally fully displayed. I'm very picky about characters given fantasy powers, I often find myself put off by more than one gimmick, and I generally don't like when characters are half / full supernatural being. I just fancy humans like that.
It did come off like Alusa was a little bit over-powered yet sometimes her skills were downplayed for the story or she was dumber or less resilient than she should've been. SpoilerI'm just saying if you have talents like that, getting fake-kidnapped doesn't seem like the …
