Juhana reviewed Last and First Idol by Gengen Kusano
Girl power to the nth
5 stars
In these post-modern times, its not unheard of people mixing different interests into their work. But this "widescreen yuri baroque" is next level, which is the author's definition of these short stories. Sounds utter nonsense at first but makes perfect sense afterwards. Happily mixing dry and cebebral hardcore scifi with colourfully anarchistic anime action, the stories escalate logarithmically until we're bombarded with truth supernovas. The perverse part? It somehow all works. Usually joke concepts run out of steam or feel lazy, since anybody can write a joke story, but here the author is committed til the satisfying end, providing commentaries on society and cultural phenomenoms.
If you're in any way interested, give this a shot. I do have to warn that there's a lot of depictions of gory violence and bodily functions, so if you're a bit squeamish on that front, well: you were warned.
