At any given time, I am probably reading one book in paper form, another as an audio book, and another on an e-reader. I also keep an anthology or collection in my car, for those long waits. My average rating is between 3 and 4, because I try to seek out good books and authors. One goal is to read all the SF award winners and SF Masterworks. See my profile at Worlds Without End.

Finally, the "social media" info - I am a long-time reader, proud to have completed several summer reading programs as a kid. I recall reading more than 50 books one summer. When I'm not reading, you might find me gaming (board and role play) or working, either as a baseball umpire or with software.

Everybody loves this Michael Lewis guy; this was the first of his I read (though Moneyball is up soon, Dr. Craig!). A very good explanation of the shenanigans behind the massive collapse of 2008. Wow.

Philip K. Dick: Ubik (Spanish Edition) (Paperback, Spanish language, 2004, Ediciones Urano)

I really enjoyed this book and, even though I've read several PKDs, still didn't guess where it would end up. Book set in 1992, written in 1969, and was a little off on the future front, but that quibble aside, this is a great story!

Really enjoyed this book. Lots of solid references in the back also. How to be healthy at 100? Eat fresh vegetables, sing and dance, and generally be positive. :)

Scott Westerfeld: Leviathan (2009, Simon Pulse)

A nice match to The Guns of August, read earlier this year. Recommended by son, 12. Looking forward to the sequel, and maybe some more from this same author after that.

William Gibson: Pattern recognition (2005, Berkley Books)

One of the most influential and imaginative writers of the past twenty years turns his …

Read this after Spook Country, and enjoyed it less. The ending felt rushed, and the emotional impact of September 11 did not age well. I did enjoy the impact of information and history here, but not the main character.

Steven Pressfield: Killing Rommel (Hardcover, 2008, Doubleday)

Written as the memoir of a British lieutenant, and based on real-life events, this historically …

First off, I clearly need to read more Steven Pressfield. This historical fiction tells the true story of the Long Range Desert Group, an allied group battling the Desert Fox in WWII Africa. While reading this, I easily pictured scenes from a movie, which is no surprise as Mr. Pressfield has written several screenplays. Recommended!
