Quite a journey. The writing was easy to read and captivating. The story, the events and the characters were amazing and had sufficient depth. Somehow, though, towards the end the difficulties following each other ended up just very slightly flat, while a final survival would have made it perfect. That's the problem with true stories, though, and you cannot make up a final battle without turning it into fiction. A very enjoyable read and I really liked the ending with what happened to the main characters as icing on the cake.

The author's journey into the world of ultra running is a very interesting one, just enough stories of others as a backstory, just enough drama on the way to keep the reader engaged and just enough information (for me) to learn something. A worthy listen.

The premise of this story was so interesting that I couldn't help but to read it. The writing style is entertaining and funny and to accomplish the goal an amazing feat of either the author and his friend or of the British people they meet on the way. Or both. Very enjoyable, but somewhere in the middle felt a bit repetitive.

A lot of interesting information on running and human movement. Well written in an understandable way, though at times includes obviously some repetition when coming to the same conclusions from different sources. Enjoyable listen all in all.

Aika taattua Risto Räppääjä laatua. Uppoaa hyvin 7-vuotiaalle iltasatukirjana eikä ollut ihan pöljä aikuiselle lukijallekaan. Sisältää myös tervehenkisiä opetuksia esimerkiksi ennakkoluuloista ilman, että niitä mitenkään alleviivataan.

For me the book started kind of slowly and very locally and I was beginning to think that it's not at all what the title suggests, but towards the end it kind of came together and even the white sky mentioned in the title became clear. Depending on the reader might cause more despair or give hope for the future.

Hyvää Risto Räppääjää. Juoni pysyi hyvin koossa eikä harhautunut liian pitkälle sivujuoneksi, kuten joissain on käynyt ja jännittäviä käänteitä riitti loppuun asti höystettynä sekä aikuista lukijaa että eksarilaista iltasatukuuntelijaa huvittavalla huumorilla.

7-vuotiaalle luettu iltasatukirjana. Joihinkin muihin Räppääjiin verrattuna yhtenäisempi juoni, joka kantoi koko kirjan alusta loppuun. Vain muutama hassuttelu tuntui hieman irralliselta, mutta tätä oli aikuisenkin kiva lukea ja varsinainen kohde jaksoi kuunnella paljon keskittyneemmin kuin monia muita kirjoja, joten sanoisin että lapsenkin mielestä tarina oli hyvä. Sisälsi myös asianmukaisesti opetuksia anteeksiantamisesta.

Tätä kirjaa lukiessa tajusin jatkuvasti, miten vähän tiedän puiden elämästä ja metsistä. Kirja sisälsi paljon mielenkiintoista tietoa, mutta helppolukuisessa ja kevyessä muodossa. Kirjoittajan vilpitön luonnon arvostus ja ihailu on tarttuvaa ja sain kulkea saman matkan kuin kirjoittaja ammatissaan, mutta lyhyemmässä ajassa. Kirjoittajan tavoite varmasti täyttyi, kun myönnän katsovani puita ja metsiä kirjan luettuani uusin silmin.

Finniepisodi ja murtovarasepisodi tuntuivat Elvillä löyhästi yhteenliimatuilta erillisiltä tarinoilta sen sijaan, että kirja olisi tuntunut yhdeltä yhtenäiseltä tarinalta. Muuten ihan viihdyttävää ja hassua sekoilua, vaikkei ihan parasta Räppääjää ja toimi hyvin eskarilaiselle luku kerrallaan iltasaduiksi luettuna. Tärkeä viesti tietysti oli, että Nelli tykkää Ristosta vaikka olisikin finni.

Too much Jimmy, too little Louis. Really wanted to like this as much as I like the TV-work. It started promisingly, but ended up orbiting too much around Jimmy Savile for my taste. Enjoyed listening to Louis talk anyway.

This book is probably the most solid five stars I have read or listened to in a long time. Attenborough goes through some of his personal history while describing how the world has changed during his lifetime. And still, while describing a world where we are living in the middle of a disaster we do pretty much nothing about, he leaves a glimmer of hope. Even the content would have been a solid five stars, it is even more enhanced by Attenborough's narration, which is a pleasure to listen to.

The story in itself is interesting, but I felt the book was written like a very long news report with a lot of background information around the whole story. In a sense I see that it is good, if you want knowledge of what happened and some insight on why. I feel, though, I would have enjoyed the book more, if it was more focused on the personal stories of the protagonists and less weight on politics and terrorist organisations. All of it is of course part of the story, but I was left feeling like reading a report.
