Went to this thinking that I would probably not like it. And it's true. I didn't like it. But I knew I just had to read it at some point, Harry Potter is very close to my heart after all. And I do love it when they make new content even if the actual story has already ended. That said, I still really didn't like this. And it has nothing to do with the play format.
For me, the problem starts with the ending of the original series. I hated the epilogue. I was trying to say goodbye to all the beloved characters, and what I get is the most mundane chapter. The Cursed Child takes off from there, making us see our heroes turning into the stupid adults. It's kind of tragic, really.
Well, even that put aside, the story didn't still work for me. It feels like a rushed series of mishaps that happen against the logic of the original series. The cheaply put-together time travelling is just the last nail on the coffin. While watching the original play I think I could've looked past all this and enjoyed the flow and the visuals, but... Not like this. I think fan fic readers can all agree they've read better fanfics.
Wouldn't recommend, but I know all potter fans will still read it. And I understand.
