Simo reviewed Towards scientific literacy by Derek Hodson
None
5 stars
An exellent book about the importance of teaching about science in addition to teaching science at school. Hodson presents strong arguments about how traditional view on science offered by textbooks and media is not only inaccurate, but also harming students' interest in science and their ability to became scientifically literate and active citizens.
Towards Scientific Literacy presents briefly academic discussion on philosophy, sociology and history of science on a level suitable for science teachers and science teacher educators not familiar with these fields. It also provides some suggestions on how to change science education in a way that allows students to learn about how science works and what role could scientific knowledge have in their lives as active citizens.
