I have quite mixed feelings about this collection. Heuvelt writes well, that must be said, and especially the first two stories keep you in their grip.
But then, the creeps. And not because these are supposed to be horror stories. But the way sexuality is portrayed in these stories, that is creepy. In Hertenhart en gembertimbaaltjes this creepiness goes to the max: the protagonist is raped by her partner while she pretends to be sleeping, and she finds it just romantic. Oh well, quite a dealbreaker for a story. And it doesn't stop there, but telling more would be a spoiler so...
And after reading this collection and HEX I wouldn't be so sure that awkward portrayal of women is an odd occurrence in Heuvelt's stories, but more like the rule. I guess it's enough of his books for me now.
